Germany — Variety In History & Modern Living

Germany is not an attention seeker. It's probably for this reason that its rich culture, amazing history, and spectacular natural beauty go unnoticed more often than not. The country has some of the most impressive castles, forts, churches, cathedrals and town houses that represent the best of Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance and Classic art and architecture.

Quaint villages tucked away contentedly in picturesque valleys, with cobble-stone streets and old curiosity shops, seem a world away from the rush hour oriented modern life that we've come to take for normal.

Search Your City By Browsing Through German States

Germany consist of 16 federal states. All of them have their own capital and certain districts (and often their own, unique culture!)

Famous Places In Germany

From the Alpine ranges to silver beaches, the dense woods of Black Forest (Schwarzwald) to the medieval villages of Nuremberg, Germany is chicken soup for the tourist's soul!

To the west, by the banks of the Rhine River in Cologne stands the gothic marvel, the Cathedral dedicated to the Magi. Massive in size and splendour, it is believed to be one of a kind supported by a hundred pillars and having a profusion of strategically placed stained glass art.

Or in South Germany lies Lake Constance (Bodensee), holding aloft the paradisiacal island of flowers, Mainau, with the majestic Alps in the background. You will not be able to take your eyes off the spectacular show of vibrant blooms spread like a lush carpet across the land. The neighbouring Reichenau Island holds the famous abbey by the same name and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Need one say more?

Rügen to the north has a distinctly dramatic landscape of about 15 km (9.3 mi) of sheer white chalk cliffs rising over 120 m (394 ft.), overlooking the emerald and turquoise waters of the sea below. While these cliffs themselves are an inspiring vision, the view from the top is again another mind blowing experience.

To the north-east, in Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate has witnessed more historic moments in German history than any other monument. When the Berlin Wall finally became history, it was celebrated whole-heartedly under these very portals. (I remember these moments very well.) This sandstone structure of immense beauty has now gone from historic importance, to an emotional symbol of German reunification.

Germany's People Are More Than Friendly

You'll be pleased to know that fairy tale kingdoms still exist... at least in Germany. Come, see for yourself. Immerse yourself in the charming comfort of a bygone era and find that peace that neither yoga nor transcendental meditation can provide.

Soon enough you'll synchronize with my own mantra, "Germany's variety and diversification is unique in the world."

And the German people are so friendly. Who assumed that after such a horrible experience like World War II? But time changes, my friend, so do people.

The best proof was the highly prased FIFA World Cup 2006, a football (soccer) event we haven't seen yet like this, where millions of people from all around the globe discovered the friendliness and the real heart of this country.

Discover Train Travel, Rivers, Castels

Find connections to and from all German cities and towns by using public transport. You'll find German Rail all over the place. And the next airport is also "closer than nearby."

And many train routes go along beautiful rivers and picturesque castels. You'll be amazed of how often you pack out your camera because there's again an amazingly beautiful and stunning spot that I need to take a photo of!

How Do You Proceed From Here?

Again, take advantage of the variation our German cities and towns offer. Their historical buildings yet modern living is breath taking and unique! It's probably the first spot you'll want to start to browse through this portal, MyGermanCity.com, and find the place(s) you'll want to stay in.

Or, if you're more after certain areas, why not go ahead and pick one of the German federal states to decide which German culture you'd like to discover?

Go for it! smile
