About Marcus — About MyGermanCity.com

Travel is my passion. This was not always so though.

When I was a kid I was brought to a few places such as Spain and Austria. I think it was a nice experience. But when I got older there was no joy for me in traveling, yet. I rather enjoyed staying at home and concentrating on the business side of life.

It was 1998 when I started to get interested in traveling. I and my ex-girlfriend decided to travel. But where? And how long?

2 weeks. And my wish was to go far, far away (outside of Europe).

Although she wished to go to Italy, “we” finally decided to visit the wonderful island of Koh Samui in Thailand.

We had the time of our live there. We even tried to expand the 2 to 3 weeks, but it was impossible, unfortunately.

That travel was the start of a journey I enjoy ever since.

Next destinations followed only in 2001, but it went on and on since then, and mostly to destinations outside of Europe (explore the world man!).

First I went, alone, for one week to Tunisia, Africa. It was spring time, shocking cold, at a new but growing touristic place, and I felt a bit lonely.

Next stop for one week in the same year was (with (another) ex-girlfriend) Hurghada in Egypt. Awesome place, awesome time. And although I had horrible stomach pain for three days, the other three days that I was healthy were great. On one day we went to the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, had a temperature of 40°C (104°F), but due to the dry air it felt like comfortable 30°C (86°F).

Then in 2002 was my first visit to the USA — two weeks. I went to the States alone (but was not alone in the States — thanks to the Internet ;-) and visited Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Fresno, and New York City. Both the hostel I stayed in in Manhattan and Manhattan itself were incredible.

By the way, I went to the States two more times — three weeks Saint Louis in 2003, and five days Orlando in 2004 (attending a seminar).

Back to 2002, I went also to Brazil for the very first time that year. I spent three weeks in Salvador, Bahia — a fascinating place with incredibly beautiful women.

I was so fascinated that I almost took a woman with me to Germany. ;-)

I went back home alone and visited Brazil again one year later, in November 2003. This time I stayed in Goiânia. Although it was not as fascinating as Salvador, I was still impressed about the country and its culture and people — happiness all over the place.

In early 2004 I was about to move to Brazil. Though, a sudden change in business made me stay in Germany.

It was only two years later though that I finally moved to Brazil — to the always sunny Natal in the north-east.

As far as my home country is concerned (about which this Web site is ultimately about), I’ve explored a great deal of Germany due to a past executive job I had in the chemical industry. In other words, I was traveling tens of thousands of kilometers through South and West Germany six years of my life — besides the thousands of other kilometers where I just picked up or rented a car and spent an entire weekend “somewhere.” :-)

Both places are special to me — Germany and Brazil. Both countries have their own qualities and advantages. Sometimes I even spend a few months in Germany, especially when I miss things such as German bread, German wine or German food, when I need to buy things that are hard to get here in the north-east of Brazil, or when I want to feel the German climate and let my body freeze a bit again. ;-)

Enjoy your time browsing through my site. It is growing continuously.
