Hohenlohekreis is crossed by the rivers of Kocher and Jagst which bring nutrients to the area. This, the smallest of all the districts in Baden-Württemberg, is a rich wine growing area and also benefits from having a nature park nearby.
Towns & Villages in the Hohenlohekreis
There are many fascinating locations here to visit such as Öhringen, the largest town in the area. At the very center of the historic town is the medieval marketplace from where one can enjoy both the Hohenlohe castle as well as the local Stiftskirche; a church. This building promises many interesting monuments.
However, it is surely Forchtenberg which deserves most attention. Sitting in a valley surrounded by woodland it is a mesmerizing position. The entire town has a preservation order on it because its architecture is of such importance. Particularly interesting is the bright yellow Würzburg gate marking the entrance to the old town.
Culture is also alive here with the old hillside castle ruins playing host to music festivals and an open air cinema each summer.
