Indeed, winter with its cable cars, chair lifts, ski trails and toboggan runs is only part of the attraction. Well kept paths in summer will lead you to renowned locations, such as the Iller River and the Hochfrottspitze Peak at 2,649 meters.

The district seat of Sonthofen, with some 4,000 guest beds and within easy access of all attractions, was selected in 2005 as Europe’s Alpine City of the Year. From here you can easily travel to Immenstadt im Allgäu to the north, where local lakes allow sailing, fishing, hiking, skiing and skating in season.

Oberstdorf in the south is also known for both skiing and hiking, as well as for being among the highest market towns in the country. This is your gateway to the peaks of Fellhorn and Nebelhorn, both rising over 2,000 meters and most easily reached by cable car.

Oberstaufen to the west sits in the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, taking pride in its fresh air, wellness centers and family vacation activities.

Bad Hindelang to the east is your best choice for a mountain spa experience, including sulfur baths, massage therapy and relief from both stress and allergies.
