Towns & Villages in the Rastatt District

Gernsbach has much to interest the visitor with its narrow alleys surrounded by the old city wall, much of which is still intact. One of the original defensive towers also still stands tall and is known as the Stork Tower. The town here is awash with cultural events from the open-air theater in the park each summer to the week-long annual puppet festival each year which shouldn’t be missed for the pure, unadulterated fun it inspires.

Just outside Gernsbach is the largest expanse of bog found anywhere in Germany offering a glimpse of some unique habitat and the wildlife that comes with it.

One final site that shouldn’t be missed is the town of Rastatt. It has a long and important history, as evidenced by the impressive Rastatt castle which was built in 1700. The castle now houses two museums well worth a visit and looks after a number of original frescos and paintings that are justifiably popular with locals and tourists alike.
