Rüsselsheim found for itself an indelible place on the world map when in 1898 Adam Opel’s widow turned his sewing machine business around to a car manufacturing unit.

So it should not come as a surprise that life here pretty much revolves around that particular automobile. You can see this for yourself at the shopping center in the city center which has an automotive theme.

But it is not all about cold-blooded commercialism. The romantic Verna-Park modelled along the lines of an English garden will have you strolling amid green landscapes and chirpy fountains.

Historic monuments lie all around Rüsselsheim. Within 16 km (10 mi) of the place, you get to visit castles such as Biebrich and Wiesbaden. A bit further away is the magnificent Dom built in 1235 with amazing art works that still draw visitors.
