Bad Tölz — A Spa Town Where You Can Bathe In Iodine

Want to have a retreat where you have modern spas and rustic views from any point in the city, then a trip to Bad Tölz is necessary. This town in Upper Bavaria is easy to get to from Munich, making it a great place to soak in the iodine baths and get fresh air from mountain hikes.

When you first get to town, consider a stroll down Market Street. This street, with buildings in the baroque style of architecture has buildings from the 16th century. The oldest structure is the Khan Tower, which was built in 1353.

On the eastern side of Market Street, tourists can find the City Museum. If this building looks familiar, it is because it was where the TV show Der Bulle von Tölz was filmed.

Bad Tölz was one of a kind, in that it was the first city in Germany to have a podcast tour of the town. Bring your MP3 (or loan one out from the tourist center) and download the tour to give yourself a great introduction to the city.

Located in the German Alps, there is enough to do outdoors to keep you in this area for a month. It doesn’t matter what season you come. In winter, you can explore by skis, snowboards or sleds. In summer you can climb mountains, ride bicycles or hike through the valleys.

If you think that this city is just another pretty mountain town with no culture, than you are wrong. It is home to a boy’s choir. This choir has performed around the world, so if they are having a concert while you are there, jump on the opportunity for a evening of beautiful music.

Whenever you come to Bad Tölz, you are going to be surprised by the fresh air. Because tourism is important to this town, you aren’t going to find plenty of reasons to stay longer and longer. ;-)
