Berlin-Schönefeld Airport (SXF), Germany’s eighth largest airport, was once the only airport serving the Communist East Berlin. Today it is Germany’s holiday gateway airport for international destinations.
There are four small terminals, and it is set for a massive expansion in the coming years.

Getting To And From Berlin-Schönefeld International Airport
Berlin-Schönefeld airport is well-served and easily accessed by public transportation.
Long-Distance Trains
There is no direct connection to long-distance trains. You will have to use one of the S-Bahns, regional trains or Airport Express to connect to the Berlin Hauptbahnhof (main station).
Regional Trains
The S-Bahn trains are a convenient way to get to and from the airport. The S9 and S45 trains will take you from central Berlin to the airport in about thirty minutes. The S-Bahns leave about every ten minutes. Remember to buy and validate your ticket BEFORE you get on board.
The other regional trains, RE7 and RB14, run every half hour. There is also an Airport Express that gets you from the main train station to the airport in twenty-eight minutes.
Buses
There are several city buses that run to and from Berlin Airport. Route numbers X7, 162, 171, N60 and N71 all stop right in front of Terminal A. There is also an Airport Express Bus that runs from the city center to the S-Bahn station, which is just a short walk to the main terminal.

Berlin-Schönefeld takes great pride in being a “green” airport. During its construction, the crews went out of their way to protect ancient oak trees, and even relocated bats and amphibians whose habitats were in or around the airport.
