The ancient Celtic town of Manching in Bavaria is the location for the small Ingolstadt-Manching Airport (IGS).
These days, the town has become a center for the EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company) of the Military Air Systems. IGS had its beginnings as a military airport.
Distance
Ingolstadt-Manching Airport bills itself as the alternative to crowded Bavarian airports. It is located in the municipality of Manching, which is only 10 km or 6 mi southeast of Ingolstadt, or 73 km (45 mi) north of Munich. It takes less than an hour to connect via the autobahn (A9) from both Munich and Nuremberg.
Hours Of Operation
Ingolstadt-Manching’s general operating hours are from 09:00 ti 17:00, Mondays through Thursdays. Friday hours are a bit shorter, from 09:00 until just 14:00.

Getting To And From The Ingolstadt-Manching Airport
Although the airport is about an hour away from the Bavarian capital of Munich, it is still relatively easy to reach IGS via public transportation.
Long-Distance Trains
It is possible to reach the train station in Ingolstadt via the long-distance and ICE trains. Then transfer to a bus for the rest of your journey (see below).
Regional Trains
There are no regional trains or metros that stop at Ingolstadt-Manching.
Buses
Besides the regular bus services going from Ingolstadt to Manching, the airport offers shuttle services for its passengers. Contact the airline or IGS directly for more information.
Car / Taxi
Autobahn A9 is the connector from both Munich and Nuremberg. Get off at exit 63 — Manching and follow the signs to the ZIVIL airport (again, Zivil!).
In case you’ve got a navi system on board, enter Manching for the city and Rechliner Straße for the street.
Shopping
Because of its small size, there are limited shopping opportunities here at Ingolstadt-Manching Airport.
Food & Drink
Caffè Blu is the bistro in the airport’s new General Aviation Terminal. Here you can order specially-catered treats and snacks before you take off to your destination. The restaurant is open Monday through Fridays, any other day is by request only.
Fun Facts
The Ingolstadt-Manching Airport recently doubled in size with the addition of its new terminal. Some of the new amenities include the Caffè Blu and even a conference room for time-strapped business travelers.
The new facilities are also used for helicopter pilot training for the EC135 choppers.
