Where do I begin to tell you about the wonders of the mystic Black Forest (Schwarzwald) area of Germany? Trust me; it’s no easy task when confronted by natural beauty on an immense scale that leaves you speechless!
Enigmatic pine woods, gurgling brooks, lush valleys, and blue mountain peaks will leave nature lovers in ecstasy.
There’s a tendency to immediately grab a dessert spoon, or jump to conclusions of a sinister kind on hearing the name, Black Forest. But it’s merely indicative of some imagination on the part of the natives due to the lush pine woods that acquire a dark aura.
Especially so, in conjunction with the shadows thrown up by the majestic mountains.
A great way to appreciate the paradisaical splendor of this area would be to take the High Road trip. This takes you through the best scenic spots and pampering spas, letting you immerse yourself in the magnificence that unfolds at every turn.
If you’re driving yourself, you’ll need a powerful engine under the hood of your vehicle, and a working common sense under yours.
A piece of cake, a German cuckoo clock, and a waterfall — that’s what Triberg, in the heart of the Black Forest, has to offer. But wait till you get there. You’ve probably had the cake elsewhere before, but a bite of that sumptuous piece of divinity that you get to taste here will make you turn your nose up at all those impersonators.
There are clocks and there are cuckoo clocks. Come see the artistry that goes into the making of one. See the Worlds Biggest Cuckoo Clock along B-33 as you go by. There are more souvenirs besides, and you’ll certainly carry away an armful.
As for the waterfall, it’ll leave you in such a state of awe you’ll never look at a glass of water the same way again.
After traipsing all over that hilly terrain, you might be in the right mood to soak in a spa at Baden-Baden. Who knows… you might just run into a celebrity wearing nothing but huge sunglasses! ;-)
