Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH), a.k.a. Bodensee Airport, is located in Germany’s Baden-Württemberg region — overlooking the majestic Lake Constance. It is the third-largest in this state and about 600,000 passengers make their way through it each year.
Distance
Friedrichshafen Airport is only 3 km (1.9 miles) north of the city of the same name — Friedrichshafen.
Hours Of Operation
Friedrichshafen Airport is generally open from 6:00 until 22:00. Special exceptions are sometimes made for charter flights. The airport will open two hours before the earliest flight.
Friedrichshafen Airport Airlines
Although a fairly small airport, a whole bunch of carriers stop at and fly from FDH (take a deep breath!): Aeroflot, Air Berlin, Air Europa, Air Via, Astraeus, Atlasjet, Austrian Airlines, Blue Wings, Lufthansa, Estonian Air, Flybe, Futura International Airways, Hamburg International, Iceland Express, Inter Airlines, Intersky, Nordic Airways, Sky Airlines, Sun Express, Transaero Airlines, Transavia and Tunisair.

Getting To And From Friedrichshafen Airport
Friedrichshafen is well-served by public transport. The biggest difficulty will be deciding how to arrive: by train, bus or boat. Yes, boat! :-)
Regional and Long-Distance Trains
You can easily get to the airport terminal via the stop “Friedrichshafen Flughafen.” Both Deutsche Bahn (DB) and Bodensee-Oberschwaben Bahn serve this station.
Buses
Connections via shuttle bus abound. Most connect to many of the local regions and towns such as the Allgäu, Basel and Graubünden. Here’s more detailed information (including timetables) about the Friedrichshafen Airport Shuttle Services.
Boat
FDH offers another, more novel way to arrive at its terminal. You can reach the airport via a catamaran from Lake Constance in just under an hour! The boats operate from 6:00 am until about 8:00 pm.
Shopping
There are several good opportunities for shopping at FDH. The Ringeltaubenmarkt showcases designer goods like perfumes, cosmetics and wines. Travel Store % offers typical airport goods at discounted prices, so you can stock up on sweets and alcohol.
The Airport Travel Shop is the perfect stop for those essential items you may have forgotten, lost or had confiscated! You’ll find toiletries as well as magazines, newspapers, books, sunglasses and tobacco.
Food & Drink
Whether you have hours to kill or need a quick take-out meal, Friedrichshafen has something for you. There’s Italian food before you go through the security checkpoint. A panoramic restaurant, “Halbhuber,” serves tasty meals and has occasional entertainment.
Then there’s the aptly-named Cafeteria “Stand-By” that offers quick snacks and coffee. And in good weather, you can even enjoy snacks and other goodies from the airport’s viewing platform.
Fun Facts
Friedrichshafen Airport has a long history with aviation that goes back to pre-airplane days. It once even served as a base for zeppelin flights!
