Karben is an ingenious mix of work, fun, and play that invites curious attention from first time visitors. Of course, the old timers know where exactly to find what they’re looking for.
Lolling on the banks of the River Nidda, this little town has all the appeal of a pastoral hideaway while packing quite a punch in terms of excitement.
Karben has two castles that come with a boatload of history attached. The Kloppenheim Castle harks back to the Roman times and still manages to awe visitors. The Groß-Karben region has more surprises for those who thought it was just a sleepy little village.
The Degenfeldsche Schloss, the second castle I was talking about, is an impressive structure that you can rent to hold functions. If you’re thinking of getting married, here’s where you might hold a reception. If you’ve no such plans, go on to visit the in-house museum with its small yet fascinating collection of local history.
In the vicinity of Karben is the Leonhardi’sche Schloss which is, however, in private hands. Go on to Burg-Gräfenrode for more historical architecture. Many cathedrals are to be found in and around the town, still bearing almost intact, the various medieval styles that are so hard to find outside of these obscure little places.
Karben’s beauty lies in its vast rural landscapes. This can be enjoyed to the fullest on a bike, hike or a trek. Or else, consider visiting Rapp’s Nature Adventure Garden. Get your fill of the Wunderwelt pond, the Aromatic Herb Garden, Bee-Nistwand, and even a bird watching station. You also get to visit a winery if you have the time for it.
For more of beauteous nature, you have to visit the Rosenhang in Karben. About 5000 square meters of hill slopes with over 700 varieties of roses! Well… you get the picture. :-)
Then there are the little pleasures of life such as the saunas, the heated swimming pools, the football fields, and tennis courts that enrich vacations and put smiles on sulky faces. Speaking of which, make really sure you visit the Hallenfreizeitbad in Karben whether your priority is having fun with your family or getting away from them. ;-)
