The small district of Main-Taunus-Kreis is situated between the busy cities of Frankfurt and Wiesbaden in southern Hesse. An area of reasonably flat land between great mountain ranges and bordered to the south by the River Main, it is quite heavily forested and rural in appearance.

Towns & Villages in the Main-Taunus-Kreis
The town of Eppstein is typical in relation to many surrounded towns and villages with its half-timbered houses. However, it has been host to many regional and national cycle races and also attracts many visitors with its splendid Eppstein Castle — the location of many popular festivals. Only Flörsheim am Main claims to rival this in numbers for its annual Carnival festivities.
And Bad Soden am Taunus is where kings and royalties took therapeutic dips in its numerous healthy springs.
The south-west of the Main-Taunus-Kreis borders onto the popular Rheingau wine district.
The town of Hochheim — where the Main feeds into the Rhine itself — is believed to be the origin of the word and drink of Hock, a type of German white wine known the world over. Throughout the summer, tables appear in villages to allow you to sample their produce: have fun!
