To describe Neunkirchen-Seelscheid with only one word to tourists, the answer would be “idyllic”.
This small municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia is known for its history and its beauty. Since 5000 B.C., people have been living in this area, and there are records dating back to the 12th century.
Fresh air is easy to find in this area of Germany. If you want to get out and experience nature, check out the Feuchtwiesen. Forests, fields and rivers snake through this breathtaking area. Because this area isn’t that heavily populated, you might even be able to escape an entire afternoon without meeting anyone else.
Perhaps you are afraid of getting lost in the woods and never finding your way back? You won’t have to worry because there are trails on Fliehburg that take you through the hilly Höhenrücken. The best time to go is during the spring and summer when the area is in full bloom.
Those who want to see the green side of the area will enjoy a trip to the amazing Wahnbachtalsperre, a dam. This is where three quarters of a million residents get their drinking water from!
Those traveling on a shoestring don’t have to spend a fortune on hotel rooms because in Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, you can find a 4-star camping ground! Camping Krawinkel will keep the whole family entertained with swimming, hiking, grilling and more. If you don’t have a tent, don’t worry… they have cabins for rent, too.
You probably wouldn’t expect such a small place to have a lot of cultural options, but Neunkirchen-Seelscheid has two different art houses, a theater and the Sattelgut Pinn Galery. What is unique about the Sattelgut Pinn Galery is that it is housed in an old barn. You won’t be able to see this type of gallery in any of Germany’s big cities!
Still, Neunkirchen-Seelscheid is located close to Bonn and Cologne, so getting there is not going to be a problem. There is enough here to keep you busy for a couple of relaxing days.
