The Passau District borders Austria, just south of the Czech Republic, cutting into the Bavarian Forest and including a number of tributaries to the Danube. Although the local capital has the same name, Passau town is politically not included as part of the district that surrounds it.

To the northeast, you will find the health resort called Hauzenberg, which is beautiful in all seasons. Located in the center of the Southern Bavarian Forest recreation area, it has a unique spa park featuring a climate pavilion with open-air concerts and cinema.
Where the Vils and Wolfach rivers flow into the Danube, the town of Vilshofen an der Donau extends out into the water on a sharp tongue of land. Shopping, sightseeing and theater are just a few of the attractions you will encounter here.
Due south, the town known as Bad Griesbach will bid you relax in hot thermal waters from deep underground. The spa doubles as a golf resort, making it a favorite side trip among travelers between Munich and Prague.
In Pocking, to the south, you can see one of the world’s largest solar energy farms, with an output capacity of ten megawatts. A little further south is Bad Füssing. Boasting three modern baths and a natural healing spa, it has been rated among the most popular wellness resorts in Europe.
