In south-east Rhineland-Palatinate on the banks of the Rhine itself sits the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis. Located in the Rhine-Neckar Triangle and metropolis, this region has five cities either within its boundaries or bordering onto it, including the UNESCO heritage site of Speyer and Germany’s third oldest city, Worms.

This part of the Rhine valley has a warm climate and low rainfall, so is very popular with visitors and locals alike, and is very fertile — perfect for vineyards! ;-)
The west of the region backs on to the Deutsche Weinstraße or German Wine Route and is a treat to visit anytime from May through to October. All you need to do is follow the yellow signs with grapes on them to enjoy it.
The scenic Pfälzer Wald is to the very south-west of the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis, but is certainly a place to visit if you are a serious walker or cyclist making use of the many trails. However, it is also perfect for families who just want to drive in, run around a bit and then leave!
