Soltau is just what the doctor ordered for a full-fledged rejuvenation for the body and soul, if he takes his job as a healer seriously that is. There’s no point keeping this for later, so here goes. ;-)
Soltau has the largest theme park in North Germany and that is the Heide-Park Resort. Grab a piece of Americana as you revel in the German version of it, complete with the Statue of Liberty and the White House.
What might really get you going, however, would have to be this huge Carousel set plumb in the middle of a calm blue lake. That’s something that beckons and won’t take No for an answer.
Another attraction for the daredevils would be the Colossus, the largest wooden roller coaster in the world.
For the more sober at heart, there’s the elegant Dutch Village in Soltau which seems straight out of a fairy tale book complete with gilt edges. Lovely gardens in full blooms and beer gardens with even more rosy temptations will soon have you relaxed and ready for more.
Now that roller coaster in Soltau is sure to leave you rattled and disoriented, if not downright sick. Maybe now would be a good time to consider relaxing at Soltau-Therme. This here’s not just a spa; rather, they cater to a more complete form of entertaining relaxation. Why else would they have music in the fore-court and great local food? I mean, it’s simply a fabulous idea to combine food, music, and spa, don’t you think? :-)
The Soltau Golf Club is another big draw… for golfers of all levels of expertise. Whether you hit a birdie or wrap the club around your neck trying, you could do worse than checking out this place.
If swinging a club is not your thing, opt for the Alte Reithalle which clings to its erstwhile military bearings but is now an indoor riding school.
Interested in more history? Head for the Norddeutsches Spielzeugmuseum, the North German Toy Museum, at Poststraße 7 (take a look at the Soltau webcams!). You never know what fun stuff you’ll find in this cute green house of goodies. :-)
