The capital town of Bad Oldesloe is a great example of this. Having shown in archeological digs to be home to some early mesolithic peoples who have left traces of their existence with numerous flint tools, it is also the home of another dwelling: the Mennokate. This small 16th century building was the home of Menno Simons — the founder of the pacifist group of the Mennonites.

As with many towns in neighboring districts, numerous westerly towns are suburbs of the city of Hamburg. As a result they have an energized and busy atmosphere about them, with Ahrensburg being a well known business center for the area.

Other areas of the Stormarn District are peaceful and scenic, filled with golf courses, inland lakes and miles of easy going hills and valleys to fill your more leisurely days.
