Sulzbach (Saar) — Silent Forests, Sunny Peaks, Romantic Spots

September 4th, 2009

There are many natural monuments in the vicinity of Sulzbach (Saar). These monuments range from the Burning Mountain in Dudweiler, to the boots in St. Ingbert, to the loop in Orscholz, to caves in the Schlossberg Homburg, and many more.

There are also many recreational areas including reservoirs, lakes, parks, cycling trails, and more. Most hiking trails take you through natural parks and landscape. But, Sulzbach offers something a little different.

If you take the industrial heritage Trail, you will take a trip through the past as you see the Saarland coal industry. Old coal towns, farms and equipment, and other coal mining memorabilia dot the trail.

There are also, of course, trails leading you through a more natural landscape. One of the most popular trails is a walk through the forest of the Burning Mountain. Walk along the water and witness some of the most beautiful scenery you’ve ever seen.

Or, take a longer hike along the Grand Circuit, which takes you through both the above mentioned trails, and one extra trail through the Saar coal forest.

Romantic evenings are an easy thing to find in this charming little town. Although wine is not as big a commodity in Sulzbach and the surrounding area of Saarland, you will still get the delicious wine made in other parts of Germany. Enjoy a nice candlelight meal at any of the many bistros and restaurants.

If you are interested in seeing some of Saarland’s industrial history, visit the historic house of salt. Salt was a valuable asset as a preservative and the industry created a big boost in the economy for Sulzbach and the nearby areas in Saarland.

And, of course, there are many beautiful chapels and churches to visit. The Old Chapel, the Grave Chapel, the Catholic Parish Church, and the Evangelical Church are all popular spots for Christian tourists.

Schwarzenberg And Its Fascinating Landscapes

September 2nd, 2009

Whether you are visiting Schwarzenberg for a short break from the hustle and bustle of city life, or taking a long relaxing and restful retreat, you are sure to enjoy your stay. The locals are friendly and will do everything they can to make sure your stay is a pleasant one.

A stay in Schwarzenberg is a stay in a land of beautiful landscapes. It is located perfectly amidst the gorgeous mountains and rolling hills right along the Erzgebirge, or Ore Mountains. It is also in the scenic nature reserve Vogtland.

You know what that means… You can go hiking and enjoy the splendid panoramic view, feel nature at its purest, and get to know the heart of Schwarzenberg. Take any of the many well-marked regional and national hiking paths, as well as any of the numerous trails that will take you through the varied history of the city.

One of the best things about Schwarzenberg is the variety. You can spend the morning in a castle, spend the afternoon in the Ore Mountains, and have a pleasant evening in an unforgettable restaurant. The unique history that Schwarzenberg is known for is evident everywhere.

The history of the town is rooted in its mining past, and you can clearly see it even today. Along with the traditional mining museum, go ahead and explore restored castles and the railway museum. The restored castles not only provide insights into the history of the city but you’ll also experience the wonderful views of the surrounding region.

The railway museum is one of the largest collections of railway vehicles in Saxony. It is a standing testimony to the technological and economic development of the region. Experience life as it was driving under steam power along the many railways of Germany.

All in all, Schwarzenberg is a great place to visit and it will be hard to regret a stop there on your travels through Germany (or perhaps you choose to stay longer than expected, as more than 18,000 people do).

Kreuzau Is Packed With Varied And Exciting Activities

September 2nd, 2009

In the community of Kreuzau, you’ll enjoy a variety of interesting leisure activities.

Most notably, hikers will benefit the fullest from Kreuzau’s perfect location along the edge of the Eifel national park. It is nestled in the idyllic Rur-floodplain landscape and offers a total diversity of nature and wildlife. Everyone can enjoy a stay at the Eiffel national park, but hikers will really cherish a visit there. The park hosts a hiking trail that has been rated in the top 10 in all of Germany.

For a more relaxing walk, take a stroll along the romantic streams, valleys, magnificent beech woods, and flower carpets of wild daffodils in spring.

Another part of notable interest is the German-Belgian Nature Park. It has a distinctive landscape divided into four natural areas which includes farmland, forests, hills, and even a unique marsh area. The Germa-Belgian park gets above average precipitation, which has created a total of 15 reservoirs throughout the park. There is no shortage of shore to take a relaxing stroll along.

Kreuzau is not short on culture either. There are always numerous artistic activities going on at any time of the year. There is a permanent institution of art thanks to the Cross Clubs. Here, artist from Kreuzau and neighboring communities present their ongoing exhibitions. Also thanks to the Cross Clubs, there is a wide range of sporting and cultural services that help express the local traditions and customs.

Throughout the year, there are many concerts and festivals to attend. Be sure to check with a tourist information center whenever you arrive to get a calendar of events for your stay.

There is one museum in Kreuzau, of moderate interest. It is a rock museum that has an extensive rock collection with exhibits ranging from the old to the new stone age. Many of the artifacts were important for ancestor’s survival. The museum shows the evolution of stone tools and everything you’ll see came from the nearby North Rhine-Westphalia state.
