Nidda — Gateway To The Vogelsberg Mountains

August 28th, 2009

A Popular tourist attraction in Nidda are the Vogelsberg Mountains, which was considered the main regional trail since 2004. It is connected to 11 communities in four districts in the Hoher Vogelsberg Nature Park.

There are many signs all over the town directing you to the volcanoes. This makes it a very easy attraction to find. There is no shortage of parking lots or bus stops to inform walkers of interesting nearby locations.

In the urban area around the volcanoes, many neighborhoods have sprung up. One of these is known as Eichelsdorf and is an entry portal to the Vogelsberg. There is a large information panel with information about the area, and from Eichelsdorf.

All of the hiking and bicycle tours in Nidda are centered around the Vogelsberg. The Wetterau region, in which Nidda is located too, is known for its natural beauty and the landscape of the volcanoes exacerbates the already incredible scenery. An afternoon spent bicycling through Nidda is an afternoon very well spent.

The one bicycle tour that is a bit different from the others is the Hessian Cider Tour. This tour takes you along the fruit meadow routes and travels through attractive areas of the Wetteraukreis. It runs along typical Hessian orchards and through agricultural landscapes and forests.

For a more historical attraction that you can find in Nidda, visit the Johanniter Tower. It is the last remaining of the eight oldest Johanniterkomturei in Germany. It was built in the late 1400s and still remains in great shape to this very day.

Burghausen — Warm And Inviting, A Special Bavaria Treasure

August 28th, 2009

Without a doubt, the Burghausen Castle is one of the biggest attractions. It is over 1,000 m long, making it the longest castle in Europe. It consists of six closed courtyards, large dates, and moats and drawbridges. This castle is one of the best preserved medieval fortified buildings.

Take a walk through the Middle Ages. The Castle is host to annual Castle festivals and other historic events. Check with the local tourist bureau to see if there are any events going on during your stay. The Castle is open all year and admission is free.

Next, take a walk through the old town, along the glittering Salzach River. You will see the magnificent town square and the stunning parish church of St. Jacob (built over 6 centuries ago!).

But, the best part about a walk through old town, in my opinion, is a visit to one of the many Bavarian beer gardens. Drink some delicious micro brewery beer from some of the best beer makers in the world.

Before the gates of the city is another treasure to visit. The Cistercian monastery, known as Raitenhaslach, was the first Cistercian monastery to be built (founded in 1146). The monastery has been wonderfully redesigned with open spaces for different types of exhibits.

Another jewel of Burghausen is the Salzach River. Rising in the Alps, at an elevation of approximately 2300 m (7100 feet) north of the Gerlos Pass, the Salzach River was of great importance for Burghausen during the years of the salt trade as it was developed as an economic hub.

Today, many trains run along the river, and if you catch a ride on one, you’ll notice the charming landscapes of the area.

Karlsfeld Is Leading When It Comes To Scenery And Nature

August 27th, 2009

Karlsfeld is very proud of their natural landscapes and they put much effort in keeping the areas clean and protected.

There are three main recreation parks in the municipality of Karlsfeld. They are known as the Waldschwaigsee, the Karlsfelder See, and the Eichinger Ponds.

Let’s “walk” through all of them to see what there’s on offer…

Karlsfelder See has a length of 980 m, an average width of 250 m, and the depth of up to 10 m. The lake was created in the Second World War from excavating gravel. Later, it served the U.S. Army as a military training swimming tank.

In the 1970s, it became a recreation area and was protected and cultivated by the Karlsfeld government. And that led to it’s present state of being a wonderful place for tourists and locals alike to get out of the hustle of every-day life and get some rest and relaxation.

The Waldschwaigsee is a gem for nature lovers, as well as those just looking to relax. Like the Lake Charles Fields, the Waldschwaigsee was created by a gravel excavation. The lake is perfectly located in the Mooslandschaft, in the northwestern part of the community area, close to the borders of the large town of Dachau and the community of Bergkirchen.

Although Waldschwaigsee is known as a quiet recreation area, it does attract a big summer crowd of swimmers. If you are going to experience serene nature, you may want to go in the off-season.

The Eichinger Ponds is located between Karlsfelder See and the area of Karlsfeld-West. Swimming is not allowed here. But, it is still a great place to spend free time. It is shallower than the other two lakes, so it freezes faster, and it attracts many ice-skaters in winter. And you might have never been skating in a place as beautiful as the Eichinger Ponds. ;-)

If you are up for some physical activity, there are many cycle networks around Karlsfeld. The Eichinger Ponds is host to one of the most extensive cycle networks. The tree-lined avenues are very beautiful and there’s such an expansive array of wildlife.
