Bad Berleburg — The Majesty Of Nature With Genuine Beauty

July 2nd, 2009

Bad Berleburg’s main attraction is the majesty of nature. Thick woodlands and rugged forests attract hikers, mountain bikers, and cross country skiers. Also a favorite among wildflower lovers, the town features many floral displays scattered throughout its borders.

Set atop a hill, this lively town’s main visual eye candy is the ancient 16th century Baroque castle that dominates the hillside. Known as the Schloss Fürst von und zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, this magnificent example is one of the best attractions in the village.

Activities to keep you busy include visiting outlying pastoral villages and walking in the palace park, which is full of lovely flowers and towering trees. Photo opportunities abound at the park’s lake, which I’m sure you will appreciate.

A quality museum also exists on the Berleburg Castle grounds. Displays include such items as furniture, uniforms, and art from the grand days of the palace’s history. Walking through the castle and witnessing the mesmerizing effect of seeing the pieces from that day and age is an experience you won’t soon forget.

The International Music Festival, which is held in July on the Marketplace in Bad Berleburg, features classic musicians from all over the globe. From May to October, the Schlosshofkonzerte feature live music performances which will captivate your attention. The best part? Sunday performances are free.

Fairs and festivals make up a substantial portion of the hustle and bustle in the region. There are other exciting fairs and fests that occur throughout the year. Each district hosts a Rifle Cup, with an annual festival accompanying the event. These events, known as Schützenfest, involve feisty competitions between shooters. The winner is crowned Schützenkönig, the King of the Rifle.

See or become the King when you visit this parish. ;-)

Eislingen Is Full of History, Culture, And Archeological Wonder

July 2nd, 2009

Eislingen (Fils) is a town of vast historical importance. Several archaic churches, which have roots in times-gone-by, are found scattered throughout the dazzling area.

St.-Anna-Kapelle, St.-Markus-Kirche, and Christuskirche, are all noteworthy for their old-fashioned architecture as well as their individual histories. Dorfkirche St. Jakob is a fine example of old Gothic architecture, which is what many people want to see when they visit pastoral European towns and villages.

Art lovers will want to take meandering strolls through the antiquated village to find Kreiselkunst, or gyroscope art, which can be viewed throughout the city.

Another highly notable attraction, though not art related, is that of the Fischsaurier, or Ichthyosaur — a reproduction that inhabits the town, looming down from eons ago. The creature lived during the Mesozoic, nearly 200 million years ago! Children and adults alike can wonder at the prehistoric creature, its steely countenance ruminating in your memory.

Football, or soccer, a popular sport in Europe, can be had in Eislingen. Visit the VfB Football School at Oak Creek Sportzentrum and cheer on a team during a thrilling match.

Music is also important to this town; take in a theatrical or musical show at the Filsterarassen open-air stage for pleasant atmosphere and exciting sounds. Other music venues can also be found in the city, so your stay in Eislingen will be full of harmony.

With a wide variety of cultural and touristy offerings, the city will make a great stop. Whether you are a sports fan, architecture enthusiast, or art buff, you will find pleasure in what the city has on offer. Fill your stay with trips to the old, storied churches, take in a game, or see ancient sea creatures while you stay in this antique-like location.
