Berlin nightlife is some of the most vibrant and varied in the world. With hundreds of bars and night clubs, you should have no trouble finding a place to enjoy the local brew or dance to the latest tunes. Here’s a small sampling of places to go after dark.
Berlin Bars
Harry’s New York Bar (Am Lützowufer 15)
A leading choice for businessmen and women looking to enjoy Berlin nightlife, Harry’s New York has a huge drink menu. You can choose from over 200 drinks in this bar, located inside the Grand Hotel Esplanade. In homage to its American roots, the decor consists of paintings of the US Presidents.
Green Door (Winterfeldstraße 50)
The literally-named Green Door (yes, there is an actual door painted green) is cozy cocktail bar that provides the wide assortment of drinks that you would expect from such an international city. The interesting decor will transport you back to the 1970s.
Bar Am Lützowplatz (Lützowplatz 7)
This spot reportedly is home to Berlin’s longest bar, which is testament to its huge popularity. The Bar Am Lützowplatz can draw a crowd, but you’ll find plenty of seating along the back wall, providing comfy and luxurious leather chairs.
Riva (Dircksenstraße 142)
Riva has been voted the best bar in the world in an internet poll. You’ll have to check out his trendy cocktail bar in Berlin Mitte to see for yourself. Named after the 1970s Italian footballer, Luigi Riva, the decor is quite unusual and colorful. Bright reds, yellows and purples can be seen around, with the portrait of Riva as the bar’s centerpiece
Saphire Bar (Bötzowstraße 31)
This intimate whisky bar offers welcoming leather couches for its guests. It boasts the largest collection of drinks in all of Berlin with over 300 choices on the drink menu.
Clubs
SO 36 (Oranienstraße 190)
The SO 36 is a perfect example of Berlin nightlife and its hip, alternative approach. While one night you may dance to the usual techno, disco or trance music, the next night could be reggae or even ballroom dancing! With its always surprising style, it really isn’t shocking that SO 36 is a popular nighttime spot.
Matrix Berlin (Warschauer Platz 18)
You won’t find a leather-clad Keanu Reeves here (at least not on most nights!) but entering the Matrix could still be an altering experience. With five separate dance floors, you can hear house, R&B, soul, hip-hop and reggae on any given night.
Watergate (Falckensteinstraße 49)
The name may leave a bad taste in the mouths of many Americans, but the Watergate Berlin is a new and refreshing experience. Its location alone makes this a must-see. It offers views of the Spree River and Overbaum Bridge to the sounds of electronic and house music.
Knaack Klub (Greifswalder Straße 224)
Located in Mitte, this eclectic bar has something for everyone. The music ranges live or DJ, fun dance to aggressive to jazzy pop on four different levels. There’s also a club within a club — the Dizzy Lounge is located within and offers a fancy rest and games area.
Big Eden (Kurfürstendamm 202)
Big Eden is popular with the celebrity crowd. You could spot a music or movie star on a Friday night if you keep your eyes open. If you don’t see a star though, be sure to check out the Big Eden’s signature light show, a true star of the Berlin nightlife scene.
