Bernkastel-Wittlich District — A Charming Scene On The Moselle

On the banks of the river Moselle, the Bernkastel-Wittlich District sits in-between the Eifel mountains to the north and the Hunsrück chain to the south. Being one half of the wine-growing region of Naheland, you can’t miss the vineyards creeping up the steep sides of the valley, hugging the sides of the serpantine river as it wends it’s way to the Rhine.

One such location is the famous twin-town of Bernkastel-Kues. Here lies one of the most expensive vineyards in Germany — the Bernkasteler Doctor that creates Braunneberg wines. These historic locations offer medieval architecture and winding streets — in fact, the whole valley offers a chain of castles and castle ruins on almost every peak overlooking the river. A great opportunity for a scenic river cruise!

However, if you want to venture inland in the Bernkastel-Wittlich District, there are plenty of carnivals, festivals and museums to keep you entertained in the capital of Wittlich and many other villages. Morbach is in the mountains and offers not only fresh air and great views — but is also the home of a telephone museum!
