Black Forest Airport Lahr (LHA), also known as Lahr Airport, is a regional airport that’s located conveniently close to the mega-sized amusement park, Europa-Park.
Before its days as a gateway to fun, it was actually a Canadian Air Force Base from the 1960s until 1994. In 1996, it was transformed into its present state.
Distance
Black Forest Airport has an ideal location if you plan on visiting major towns both in and outside of Germany. Strasbourg, France is only 30 km (18 mi) in the east and Basel, Switzerland is 100 km (62 mi) in the south. Frankfurt is the furthest distance at 200 km (124 mi) to the north.
The airport itself can be found in the romantic town of Lahr (Schwarzwald). And as its name implies, the mysterious Black Forest is just a stone’s throw away. :-)
Hours Of Operation
The general operating hours of the airport depend on the season, and whether it is a weekday or weekend. In summer, the hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 until 18:00. Weekend hours are 7:00 to 16:00. Winter hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 until 19:00 with weekend and holiday hours of 8:00 through 17:00.

Getting To And From The Black Forest Airport Lahr
Although there are no direct train connections yet, it is still easy and fairly convenient to reach Black Forest Airport Lahr.
Long-Distance And Regional Trains
There are no direct train connections to the Black Forest Airport. You’ll need to connect to Lahr’s main train station and continue from there.
Buses
The airport operates a bevy of shuttle buses that run corresponding to incoming and outgoing flights. You can even catch a bus from LHA that will take you directly to the famous local theme park, Europa-Park.
Or, bus #104 connect the Lahr train station station to/from the airport terminal.
Car / Taxi
The Black Forest Airport Lahr lies in the east of town, in the neighborhood of Hugsweier.
In case you’re equipped with a navigation system simply enter Lahr for the city and Fritz-Rinderspacher-Straße for the street and you’re good to fly.
Shopping
There are limited shopping opportunities at this small airport, but Hugsweier, Lahr, and all that are so close you shall be able to get something around the airport before or after your flight.
Food & Drink
There are limited gastronomic opportunities in the airport. However, if you are traveling in a small business group, the airport caterers can prepare small snacks for your flight with adequate notice.
Fun Facts
If you love history and aviation, then Black Forest Airport has a treat for you. It is the home of a Super Constellations aircraft, one of only three left in the world. The Star of Switzerland, also known as Connie, is housed here. Unfortunately, it is currently not open to visitors, only the maintenance men can enjoy this historical airplane with its three rudders and propellers of 4.63 meters in diameter.
