Cities, Towns & Villages in the Constance District

It is here that you will find the World Heritage Site known as Reichenau. It is in fact an island in the center of Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) and houses a Benedictine Abbey, originally founded in 724, and is now considered of international importance.

The largest town that sits beside the lake is itself known as Constance (German: Konstanz) and offers a further magnificent spectacle in the form of a cathedral. Dating from 1052, and with evidence of another church existing on the site even before then, the tower is of particular interest due to its width being twice that of any normal cathedral.

The history and architecture doesn’t stop there. In nearby Singen you can also explore the ruins of an old fortress sitting on top of an old volcanic hill (thankfully no longer active! ;-).

And if you’re in the mood to party, Radolfzell hosts an amazing carnival which has run every year since 1841!
