Kornwestheim — Walk Or Race Over Ancient Roman Roads ;-)

Ladies, limber up those fingers. You are going to need to be ready to whip out the credit cards as fast as possible. You are about to enter the equivalent of shoe heaven, right here on earth in Kornwestheim. :-)

In 1885, a humble man called Jakob Sigle decided that he would start a small shoe making operation. It turned into Salamander, that stylish mid-range brand that just doesn’t get distributed widely enough outside of Europe. With both a factory and shops in Kornwestheim, you can’t buy them any more directly.

Gentlemen, quit moping. Salamander makes men’s shoes too. Not that you care. What are you even looking at shoes for when you could be at the Kreidler factory testing out the latest motorcycles? The company holds 9 Grand Prix Championship titles, and they let you play with some of the models. ;-)

Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s one-third of all German motorcycles on the road were made by Kreidler, and playing with the smooth lines of the machines you’ll be just as in love with the things. It’s expensive as all get out to import them, but they’ll help you do it.

The import/export thing is helped by Kornwestheim’s historical presence as a transport center. The Romans put a road through in the Bronze Age that is still being used. Just north of town, the rail yard processes more than 200,000 containers each day. You can tour it if you like.

After all the engineering marvels, however, it can be fun for both guys and girls to meet up at the regions only drive-in movie theater. Yes, with all the modern technology in the area, they still have a drive-in.

Kornwestheim’s drive-in is massively popular in the summer, and motorcycles are allowed. Pack some snacks, kick off those new shoes, and enjoy a good old fashioned show. :-)
