Leimen — Quaint Little Town Of Fame

Leimen lies to the south of the big and beautiful city of Heidelberg, which means that if you’ve decided to tour there you really should consider visiting this little gem tucked away on the slopes of a picturesque mountain.

You’ve probably heard of its industrial importance, but did you know how history lives on in Leimen? It might also interest you to know that this is the birthplace of Boris Becker, who took the tennis world by storm at a very young age.

Leimen’s reputation as an industrial town is perhaps due to the presence of the Zementwerk or Cement Factory, Heidelberger Zement, that takes pride of place here.

The entire town bears evidence of this aspect which the locals are quite proud of. You can see the conveyer belt system that runs through almost the length of the town through a tunnel to some quarry far away. This certainly makes for a difference from the usual tourist attractions and is something you shouldn’t miss.

Follow the main street that leads you up narrow pathways along steep hill sides to the pretty market places of which there are two. For an unforgettable experience of local cuisine and great coffee, you need to head for Georgi Platz which is where you’ll find the best of restaurants and cafes. Once you’ve tasted the locally brewed beer, there’s simply no turning back.

The other market place, Kurfalz-Zentrum, is where you’ll come face to face with the historical aspects of the town.

Leimen, with its splendid mountainous terrain is ideal for outdoor activity. Consider trekking, mountain biking, or simply walking along breathtaking views breathing in the invigorating fresh air. Whether you’re here in summer or winter, there’s plenty to be done for the outdoor aficionados. Go for a dip in the Baths Park if your idea of fun is an indoor swimming facility.

This town will surprise you with its variety of cultural activities and extravaganzas. If it’s not a concert or cabaret, there’s bound to be a traditional festival or parade that will knock you off your feet. Visit the museums, theaters or take a guided tour that takes you through all the historic monuments and cathedrals in this wonderful town.
