The Castle… you have to visit the Stolberg Castle. I agree there are a million other things to see and do, but you simply have to find time for the Castle. Every step you take, takes you back in time to the 12th century when this colossus was built.
When you eventually complete your tour, you’ll need to take a moment before returning to the 21st century. By the way, a guided tour is the way to go.
With a history engraved in its metal industry, Stolberg in the Rhineland, however, possesses an exceedingly vibrant landscape of hills, valleys, meadows, vineyards, and villages. This charming area in the district of Aachen welcomes you with wine and song!
You’ll have more encounters of the historic kind when you wander around the Old Town. Quaint bridges, cobbled walkways, and stone buildings interspersed with church spires and vibrant squares easily transport you into the mists of a romantic era.
You get a chance to compare architectural styles when faced with the old and new City Hall buildings in the same vicinity. Expect a lot more from the pharmacy building than something for your jetlag. The building has ornate artwork and decorative features that make for quite an impression.
A visit to Rosental, Kaiserplatz and Vichtbach will give you another perspective on medieval homes and public buildings.
To get the bigger picture of Stolberg, there’s nothing like a tour of museums. The Home and Crafts Museum and the Museum in Torburg will have you well acquainted with the exquisite local handicrafts.
The climate here, by the way, is perfect for outdoor activities. So get on that bike or take a hike down the many picturesque trails that crisscross the land. The Solchbachtal trail takes you through the woods and the Roggenläger trail finds you on a nature trip.
If water is more your scene, head for the Aquana pool. They have a sauna as well, so that should take care of your relaxation needs perfectly. :-)
