The Waldshut Disctrict is located in the south of Baden-Württemberg and going any further south you would find yourself crossing the border into Switzerland. As might be expected with its proximity to the Black Forest there are numerous wild areas and excellent hiking trails all around the area.

Particularly recommended is Wutach Gorge which is known locally for its richness of plant and animal life.
Also in nearby Bonndorf, well known for its annual carnival, the castle gardens are presented in a relaxing Japanese style — perfect for whiling away a quiet afternoon.
Prepare to be astounded at the cathedral at St. Blasien. It is one of the largest domed buildings in Europe stretching across an expanse of 36 meters (or 39 yards).
But it is not just the size that is notable. It is a beautiful building in its own right. The interior almost glows as the light bounces off the white columns and walls.
Lastly, remember to look up for the ceiling fresco.
