Gelsenkirchen restaurants represent an international flair with almost every major cuisine on offer, from Turkish to Mexican, Spanish and Italian.
Westphalian cuisine — and Gelsenkirchen’s — is well-known for its strong international flair, and less known for its own unique dishes. There is a wide variety of international foods that you will find here.
Still, be sure to try one traditional Westphalian dish, the Pfefferpotthast, a stew of pepper beef and onions. With Germany’s large Turkish population, you can also bet on getting some of the world’s best kebabs and Döner during your stay in Gelsenkirchen. ;-)
Belli Grill (Ringstraße 94)
This Gelsenkirchen restaurant is one of the many Turkish joints in the city. Belli Grill offers some delectable kebab dishes at a reasonable price. For a quick, on-the-go and affordable meal, it’s hard to do much better.
Topkapi (Neumarkt 6)
Named for a palace in Istanbul, you’ll eat like a sultan at this Gelsenkirchen restaurant. Turkish food is, once again, on the menu here at Topkapi. Food is made ready to eat here, and you’ll see rows upon rows of the most delicious offerings of the Turkish cuisine. Take your pick of lamb kebabs, Turkish pizza and rice pilaf.
La Piazza (Von-der-Reckestraße 14)
Italian food is also plentiful in Gelsenkirchen. La Piazza is well-regarded by locals and tourists. The colorful decor, varied menu filled with tasty pasta dishes and antipasto salads, and an extensive wine list make this a fabulous find. Come and eat your heart out at this reasonably priced Gelsenkirchen restaurant.
El Patio (Hauptstraße 50)
From one Mediterranean country to another… El Patio features the best of Spanish cuisine. Sample some of the traditional fish dishes as you sit in a room surrounded by hanging Spanish guitars and bright white tablecloths. The wine list is also quite good, and you have an excellent choice of the legendary Spanish tapas.
El Sombrero (Weberstaße 72)
This Gelsenkirchen restaurant is a Tex-Mex style pub. American tourists and expats will delight in the Mexican menu at El Sombrero, with its offerings of nachos, chile con carne and chicken wings. The interior design is playful and fun with its obligatory sombreros and ponchos strewn about.
