Summer is festival time in Karlsruhe. Don’t miss the fun and festivities. Find out what is happening and when it’s happening by reading my tips below…
Das Fest
The name says it all. If you can go to just one Karlsruhe event, make sure Das Fest is the one.
Each year for one weekend in July, this is one of the largest open-air rock concerts in all of Germany. Four stages boast a whole host of live bands with an audience of thousands. Best of all, attending Das Fest is free of charge!
Karlsruhe Museum Night (KAMUNA)
The beginning of August signals the start of this Karlsruhe event. On Karlsruhe’s Museumsnacht or Museum Nights, all the museums in the city extend their hours and offer special exhibits. Those seeking an immersed experience of the local culture should add this to their must-do list.
The festivities end with a live concert.
Mittelalterlich Spectaculum
Another summertime event that is sure to please is the Mittelalterlich Spectaculum. This Karlsruhe event will take you back to the time of knights and magicians. Take part in the traditional markets, listen to medieval music and play old historical games at this August festival.
Schloss in Flammen
If you love fireworks, then be sure not to miss the Schloss in Flammen (Castle in Flames). There is an elaborate fireworks performance that uses the palace as a backdrop.
This event takes place each July.
African Summer Festival
For something a little bit different from the typical traditional German festival, check out this Karlsruhe event. The African Summer Festival features exhibits and markets, and even drumming lessons. This three-day-long event is fun for the whole family.
Christmas Market
Karlsruhe transforms itself into a winter wonderland during the holiday season. The Christmas market has over 130 stalls that spread out from the old Market Square. Visitors will enjoy the ice skating rink on Friedrichsplatz square, as well as the all the holiday cheer in the air.
