Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden is a real attraction. There are informative exhibits about plant life and evolution. But the real highlight is surely the exquisite Chinese Garden. The man-made ponds and pretty pavilions might make you think you’ve been transported from Bochum to Beijing.

Lake Kemnade

This Bochum nature resort is a man-made lake built in 1979. Since that time it has been providing rest, relaxation and recreation for citizens of Bochum. You can find water sports, tennis courts, cycling and hiking paths. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and barbecues so you’ll never go hungry.

You can even take a cruise around the lake, while enjoying the local sights, like the castle Haus Kemnade or Hardenstein’s castle ruins.

Bochum Public Park

The Bochum Public Park was built in an English garden style back in 1876. You will feel transported back in time as you walk past the 19th century villas that surround the green area. There is also a stunning rose garden, a serene lake for boat rides and the landmark Bismarck tower.

Known as the green lung of Bochum, you don’t want to miss this breath of fresh air. ;-)

Ümminger Lake

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, then come to the idyllic Ümminger See. It is situated in the Ölbachtal valley.

This lovely lake boasts many attractions. There is an island that is home to a bird sanctuary and a replica of a traditional Westphalian farmhouse. And last but not least, it claims to have the largest beer garden in all of Bochum!
