Bonn shopping offers unique boutiques, small mom-and pop shops as well as large department stores. All this great shopping is in tandem with a picturesque location with its gorgeous medieval architecture.
Bonn Shopping Tip
Don’t save your shopping for Sunday since most stores are closed. Shop hours are usually Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 6:00 pm. A handful of stores have extended weekday hours, until 7:00 pm or 8:00 pm. Shorter hours are typical on Saturdays, generally from 9 am to 4 pm. Some of the larger stores stay open until 6:00 pm or 8:00 pm.
Marktplatz (Market Square)
For a day of Bonn shopping, there’s no better place to begin than the Marktplatz, or Market Square. With hundreds of boutiques and old medieval architecture, even just window shopping is a highly enjoyable experience.
Most of the shops are individually-owned, which means there’s a great opportunity for some unique, one-of-a-kind finds. There are open-air markets selling fresh foods as well as many restaurants and cafes.
Strolling over Marktplatz, your shopping day in Bonn is sure to be memorable.
You can find the Kaiserpassage Mall just a stone’s throw away from the Marktplatz. This relatively new mall, built in 2009, is much more similar to the United States’ mega-malls than to Europe’s small shops. You can find both mom-and-pop stores here along with the name-brand department stores like H&M.
The mall itself is also a pretty piece of architecture. It has skylights and windows to provide plenty of natural light but which also offer a view of the nearby Poppelsdorf Castle and Kaiser Square.
This area of Bonn is also excellent for shopping. Located in the “villas district,” Bad Godesberg offers many sophisticated shops for all your retail needs. For a day of Bonn shopping, Bad Godesberg is a perfect destination.
If you finish early, there are plenty of cafes, parks and even a museum to explore.
