Bonn is simply brimming with culture. As this is the town that raised the great Ludwig van Beethoven, this should come as no surprise. His legacy is everywhere here.
Below are my top Bonn theaters and the city’s largest cinema.
Bonn Opera
The Bonn Opera (Am Boeselagerhof 1) is located right in the center of the city along the Rhine River.
The building was constructed in 1965 and features some interesting architectural quirks. The most noticeable is the metal plates, which resemble fish scales, that cover the exterior of the building. Inside, over one thousand guests can take in a classic performance.
Theater Bonn
The Theater Bonn, Schauspiel Biennale, (Am Boeselagerhof 1) dates back to 1826. The theater has earned a reputation for showcasing the latest in European dramas.
Beethovenhalle
The current Beethovenhalle (Wachsbleiche 16) is the third incarnation of a concert hall dedicated to Bonn’s native son, Ludwig van Beethoven. The latest one was constructed in 1959. It is well-known for its excellent acoustics and is regarded as an important piece of Bonn’s cultural history. Currently, it is the home to the Bonn Beethoven Orchestra and a venue during the annual event, Beethovenfest.
La Redoute
La Redoute (Kurfürstenallee 1) is an important venue for Bonn’s many concerts and musical events. Its most famous performer was, of course, a young Beethoven.
Haus der Springmaus
If you want to take in some of the city’s best cabaret, then the Haus der Springmaus (Frongasse 8) is for you. With over 65,000 visitors every year, the Haus’s reputation as the best place for variety theater goes without saying. This Bonn theater offers plenty of independent and unforgettable performances.
Contra-Kreis-Theater
This Bonn theater is famous throughout Germany. The Contra-Kreis-Theater (Am Hof 3-5) showcases new talent and many respected actors and actresses got their start here. Some famous alumni include Jochen Busse and Renan Demirkan.
Kinopolis
Kinopolis (Moltkestraße 7) is Bonn’s biggest movie theater. Many of the movies shown here will not be subtitles, but instead dubbed into German! So be sure to check before you buy tickets to the latest Hollywood must-see.
