Football is a national pastime in Germany and Bonn is no exception. The local team here is the Bonner SC. The club’s history goes back over a century to 1901 when they were formed as the Bonner FV. In 1965, the Bonner FV merged with another local team to form the current incarnation of the Bonner SC.
This Bonn sports team can be seen at the Sportpark Nord (Kölnstraße 250) with a seating capacity of 12,000.
Bonn boasts its own professional basketball team, the Telekom Baskets Bonn. This successful Bonn sports team calls the Telekom Dome (Basketsring 1) with its 6,000 seat capacity their home.
Founded in 1992, the team has made it to the basketball finals and the German Cup multiple times in its almost twenty year history.
Bonn is home to the Bonn Lion, a world championship in foil fencing. Foil fencing refers to the type of weapon used in the competition between the fencers. So if you’re in a swashbuckling kind of mood, you won’t want to miss your chance to watch the masters in action.
Cycling is not only a popular recreational activity but also a great way to do some sightseeing. There are many cycling routes that you can take around the town for exercise and tourism. Many of the local bookshops sell maps of the bike paths.
This Bonn sports event takes place over three days each year. The equestrian competition brings beautiful horses and fierce competition to the city.
Bonn features at least nine swimming pools. Four of these are indoor pools, another for are open-air pools and one is an indoor/outdoor combination. All these opportunities mean that any time of year that you visit, be sure to bring a bathing suit. It’s always time for a swim in Bonn!
